Landmark Americana: Check it Out!
Review by: Stephanie Parker
An impressive menu, nightly drink specials, and casual elegance only begin to sum up one of University City’s newest editions. Landmark Americana, located at the corner of 33rd and Market streets, has the potential to become a Drexel University favorite. The staff is friendly, the drinks are well-made and the food is surprisingly sophisticated for a tap and grill.
Have a sweet tooth? The Chocolate Mint Martini tastes like an after-dinner mint with a kick. While this is definitely more of a dessert drink than something that will highlight your meal, it’s worth a try. Bartender Laura also mixes up a mean Mudslide, which has just the right amount of Kahlua. Looking for a drink that gets down to business? Try the Zombie: light and dark rum, Bacardi 151, and some pineapple juice will put any Long Island Iced Tea to shame. At only $6, this cocktail is quite a bang for your buck. If beer is more your style, you’re in luck. The Landmark has over 10 different beers on tap and has an even bigger selection by the bottle. Some favorites include Hoegaarden, Magic Hat #9, and Blue Moon. Wine is also available by the glass or by the bottle.
Your big appetite will meet its match as soon as you take a peek at the diverse menu. The Spicy Tuna Eggrolls, one of many appetizer selections, melt in your mouth. Served with a soy ginger sauce, these fresh little bites will cleanse your palate and get you ready for your meal. The Crab Cakes are yet another great choice from the menu. These two medium-sized cakes are served with some of the crispiest steak fries on this side of Broad Street and are seasoned to perfection. Landmark serves their crab cakes alongside a savory trio: ketchup, tartar and cocktail sauces. The favorite dish of the night was the Seafood Bisque. Served in a toasty bread bowl, this rich and creamy soup skips the fishiness for some serious flavor. If you have room left for dessert, you’ll be satisfied with options like the Brownie Sundae or the Apple Crisp.
“We focus on quality and pride ourselves on having something for everyone,” manager Brandon Neiburg commented. Neiburg has been with the small Landmark Americana chain for several years and pays close attention to the restaurant’s offerings. The newest University City location offers great service from friendly staff who truly enjoy being at the Landmark as much as the local patrons do.
The Landmark Americana has a rotating schedule of nightly events, including music bingo, trivia, open mic, and a DJ several nights a week. An evening at the bar will cost you around $5-$13 per drink depending on your poison, while most generously portioned entrees fall in the $10-$20 range. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, multiple flat-screen televisions, and private party rooms that are available upon request. The Landmark is a nice change from the typical college sports bars that surround Drexel’s campus, so make it your next choice for date night or the big game.
